80 Micro

80 Micro (originally titled 80 Microcomputing) was a prominent U.S. magazine launched in 1980, dedicated to users of the Tandy/Radio Shack TRS-80 line of microcomputers. Published monthly by Wayne Green Inc., it quickly became one of the most influential publications in the early personal computing era. Aimed at both hobbyists and professionals, the magazine featured a broad range of content: type-in programs, technical tutorials, reviews of software and hardware, programming tips (especially in BASIC and assembly), and news about the TRS-80 ecosystem.

What made 80 Micro stand out was its deep commitment to the TRS-80 platform, at a time when many magazines covered multiple brands. It created a sense of community, helping users get the most from their machines and promoting user-contributed content. The magazine also didn’t shy away from critical commentary—both of Tandy's policies and broader industry trends.

At its peak, 80 Micro had one of the largest circulations of any computer magazine of the time, reflecting the widespread popularity of the TRS-80 Model I, III, and 4 systems. As Tandy's dominance waned in the mid-to-late 1980s, so did the magazine’s relevance, and it ceased publication in 1988. Today, it’s remembered as a vital resource in early computing history.
