Amiga World

Amiga World was the first major magazine dedicated exclusively to the Commodore Amiga line of computers. Published in the United States by IDG and launched in 1985—shortly after the Amiga 1000’s release—it served as the official voice for early Amiga adopters and developers, offering professional insights into the computer's groundbreaking multimedia capabilities.

Positioned as both a technical and creative resource, Amiga World focused heavily on the Amiga’s revolutionary graphics, sound, and multitasking operating system. The magazine regularly featured software and hardware reviews, deep-dive tutorials in graphics and music applications, developer interviews, news from Commodore, and detailed programming articles in C, assembly, and ARexx. It also provided content geared toward professionals using the Amiga for video production, animation, 3D modeling, desktop publishing, and education.

Amiga World distinguished itself with high production values, full-color layouts, and a serious editorial tone. It played a crucial role in validating the Amiga platform as more than a gaming machine—positioning it as a tool for digital artists, musicians, and forward-thinking developers. As the Amiga's commercial fortunes declined in the U.S. during the 1990s, so did the magazine’s circulation, with its final issue appearing in April 1995. It remains a foundational title in the history of Amiga publishing.
